It's a strong little rack, but people do dumb things, and the tether is a safety measure. Make the tether out of cord or any adjustable strap.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eWe wanted a rack that could be used on the front of a bike with caliper brakes, because sometimes sidepull users need to carry some stuff, too. It's our smallest rack, and weighs about 12oz, and is rated to 11 pounds. There are lots of ways to use it -- as a saddlebag support in back, as a platform for a basket (zip-tie the basket on), or just to strap a stuff-sack full of gear onto it. Also, if you're mounting this on a bike without caliper brakes, you'll need a bolt and nut (get them in the bulk section of hardware stores) to attach the diving board to the fork crown.
